Arktis

We still invest many editorial resources in describing and analysing the security policy situation in the North. Now, some call for deploying US weapons and forces in Svalbard, the world's northernmost community. An exceptionally bad idea, I write in this week's comment.

In another comment, I wonder how much stress and pressure we, as Arctic people, can handle from the president in Washington. He invades our everyday lives without being invited. A form of psychological warfare.

This takes place while the US, NATO, and Greenland/Denmark continue their "negotiations."

"All this could have been agreed upon without the threats," says Marc Jacobsen,  Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Defence College.

Gas export from Russia continues despite sanctions. Russia’s first domestically assembled Arc7 carrier for liquefied natural gas (LNG), Alexey Kosygin, has completed a full transit of the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
