Hungary’s Viktor Orban has not only swung Hungary to the
populist right, cosied up to Russia and hollowed out Hungarian
democracy. He’s also enriched his cronies while lately failing to
deliver growth. So he might finally lose an election this week. Other
populists have followed Mr Orban’s playbook, so the lesson of how to unseat him matters.
Across Europe is a very different problem: can a country be too
rich? Norway floats on a sea of oil money. And that lets people and
politicians avoid hard decisions. Our Free Exchange column
