Air Berlin - Stadig med økonomiske problemer

airberlin has seen it losses widen in the second quarter compared to a year ago. It posted a net loss of €66.2 million for the period, an increase of more than 50 per cent on the year ago debit of €43.9 million. Total revenues rose slightly, 1.7 per cent, to €1.135 billion, however rising fuel prices, a higher US dollar exchange rate and the German air traffic tax combined to have a negative impact on its results.
CEO Hartmut Mehdorn commented “We were able to compensate for sharply rising
external costs with internal measures. The revenue growth shows that we are on the right
track. With our targeted fleet reduction, we will be less affected by seasonal fluctuations in
the future. We are also investing in the expansion of long haul flights in an effort to further
increase earnings and fly in the profit zone as planned next year.”
