FlyDubai Orders 100 Boeing 737s
Emirates low-cost subsidiary FlyDubai announced an order for 111 Boeing narrow body jets, including 100 of the new 737 MAX and 11 of the 737-800NGs, an $11.4 billion order at current list prices.
The investment continues the Dubai-based carrier's all-Boeing 737 fleet and represents the largest order ever placed by a Middle East airline for Boeing.
"We believe that the commitment for up to 111 Boeing 737 aircraft will give FlyDubai one of the best performing aircraft available in the single-aisle market," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of FlyDubai. "This will ensure that FlyDubai is well positioned to continue to set new standards in aviation and support the further economic development of the United Arab Emirates."
Firm configuration of the 737 MAX was achieved in July, and the first flight is scheduled for 2016, followed by first deliveries in 2017.
