A Case of Suicide? On 29 November 2013, during the cruise at FL380 and without advising ATC, the aircraft commander of an aircraft initiated  what initial evidence indicates was an intentional descent  without any prior announcement whilst the First Officer had  temporarily left the flight deck. The AP remained engaged, the  thrust was set to flight idle and the speed brakes were extended.  The aircraft was commanded to continue descend at near to  Vmo by means of the manual input of successively lower  selected altitudes until the final one was below ground level.  The Investigation is continuing.
