Bristow Looks to Cut Jobs in North Sea, Reports Say

Bristow Helicopters is considering cutting 12 engineering jobs in the North Sea, multiple news outlets have reported. According to those reports, this comes after the company lost contracts with Dana Petroleum and BP.

These jobs would be cut from operations in Scotland’s Shetland and Aberdeen, according to news reports. Bristow is reportedly talking to the trade union and employees on the matter.

Sikorsky said Tuesday it had presented Bristow with its Winged-S Rescue Award for a six-hour rescue operation off the coast of Northern Ireland. A Bristow Sikorsky S-92, operating out of the Her Majesty’s Coastguard Prestwich search and rescue base hoisted a man out of the sea.

In June, Bristow said it was reorganizing its structure and business operations, dropping a global approach to air services and narrowing its pursuit into new business areas to focus on meeting offshore energy firms’ demands for greater efficiency in specific world regions amid a chronically severe downturn. “The market has gone into a longer, more horrific downturn,” said Johnathan Baliff, Bristow president/CEO. Streamlining Bristow’s corporate structure is the first step, he said, “but there will be other announcements, so stay tuned. This is going to be a long slog.”
