The pilot of a Cirrus SR22 GTS G3 Turbo pulled the emergency parachute (CAPS pull #127) and crashed in Alcoa, about 1.5NM northeast of RWY 23L at Knoxville-McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS/KTYS), Blount County, Tennessee.
Both occupants were taken to UT Medical Center by ambulance. The owner/occupant sustained serious injuries and died later in hospital and the other remains unhurt. The aircraft was destroyed by fire.
The victim was the CEO of MyGoFlight and he was performing a demonstration of the company’s SkyDisplay Head-Up Display (HUD) system.
