Trump orders US military
to refocus on securing ‘borders against invasion, foreign nationals’

The US military will be refocused on securing
America’s borders against “threats of invasion and unlawful forays by foreign
nationals”, according to new policy made by newly re-elected US President
Donald Trump.
President
Donald J Trump signed the executive order following his inauguration address as
the nation’s 47th president earlier this week.
Under the 20
January executive order regarding “clarifying the military’s role in protecting
the territorial integrity of the United States”, the US president has ordered
the protection of the nation’s territorial integrity and national boundaries.
The Armed
Forces of the United States is now directed to prioritise the protection of the
sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United States along national
borders.
Under the
executive order, the Secretary of Defense shall deliver a revision to the
Unified Command Plan that assigns United States Northern Command the mission to
seal the borders and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity and
security of the United States by repelling forms of invasion including unlawful
mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and
other criminal activities.
In addition,
campaign planning is required to provide steady-state southern border security,
seal the border and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity and
security of the United States. As well as provide continuous assessments of all
available options to protect the sovereign territory of the United States from
mass unlawful entry and impingement on national sovereignty.
“We have a
government that has given unlimited funding to the defence of foreign borders
but refuses to defend American borders, or more importantly, its own people,”
according to passages from Trump’s inauguration speech.
“I will sign
a series of historic executive orders. With these actions, we will begin the
complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense. It’s all
about common sense.
“First, I
will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry
will immediately be halted. And we will begin the process of returning millions
and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came. We
will reinstate my Remain in Mexico policy. I will end the practice of catch and
release. And I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous
invasion of our country.
“Under the
orders I sign today we will also be designating the cartels as foreign terrorist
organisations. And by invoking the Alien
Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to use the full and
immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of
all foreign gangs and criminal networks bringing devastating crime to US soil,
including our cities and inner cities.
“As
commander in chief, I have no higher responsibility than to defend our country
from threats and invasions.”
The 60th
inaugural swearing-in ceremony was held inside the Capitol Rotunda, with Supreme
Court Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath of office and Vice
President JD Vance sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Former US
presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton attended
alongside former vice president Kamala Harris, current Congress and Supreme
Court members.
