Australia could double the number of Boeing Co. Poseidon P-8A "sub-killer" airplanes it plans to order.
Bloomberg reports Australia originally planned to acquire eight of the Puget Sound-built airplane, the number of P-8s could now reach into double figures.
About 1,200 Boeing (NYSE: BA) workers — split between Boeing’s Renton plant and a site near the Museum of Flight in Seattle — are turning 737s into deadly aircraft able to find and destroy submarines and some surface ships. Instead of passengers, the P-8s carry sonars, racks of Harpoon missiles and a belly full of underwater torpedoes.
