VULCAN XM607 TO BE RESTORED

Ahead of the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict in 1982, Vulcan XM607, the legendary aircraft from the Black Buck missions, is being preserved.

During the mission XM607 was flown by Flt Lt Martin Withers DFC - XH558’s Chief Pilot. The aircraft is now the gate guardian at RAF Waddington and was visible from the A15 side of RAF base. On 28 July, RAF Waddington reported, “For those of you who know Waddington well you’ll be all too aware of our Gate Guardian – The Vulcan XM607. Over the last couple of days work has been ongoing to prepare the aircraft for a period of recovery and preservation activity, this will see the Gate Guardian moved across camp by the Joint Aircraft Recovery and Transportation Squadron.”

The renovation work will take several months and we’ll keep you updated with news from RAF Waddington in future newsletters.
