The airline has been added to the EU’s blacklist of operators banned from European airspace after “numerous safety concerns arising from accidents and the results of ramp checks at EU airports”.
A statement from Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry said that the ban was unwarranted and “is totally disproportionate and runs counter to the considerations made by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, regarding the conditions for the safe operations of Venezuela's civil aviation”. The Ministry added that it is considering reciprocal action.
Earlier this week the country’s transport minister said that the government had approved $500 million for the acquisition of new aircraft for Conviasa’s fleet. Foto: Conviasa
