A330 ødelagt i Tripoli

Airframe details for Afriqiyah Airways A330 destroyed at Tripoli

According to photos on this Facebook page, A330-200 5A-ONF, operated by Afriqiyah Airways, was destroyed by fire during fighting at Tripoli on July 20th. The aircraft, with s/n 999, first flew in June 2009 and was delivered to Afriqiyah Airways in August 2009.

The aircraft was powered by GE CF6-80E1A4B engines.

A look at Aviation Week Fleet Intelligence Network's database shows that this is the fourth Airbus widebody loss in Tripoli in the past four years. Afriqiyah Airways lost an A330-200 (5A-ONG) when it crashed on approach to Tripoli in May 2010. Fighting at the airport in August 2011 caused the loss of a Libyan Airlines A300-600 (5A-DLZ) and an Afriqiyah Airways A300-600 (5A-IAY). The latest unrest has now caused the loss of an Afriqiyah Airways A330-200 (5A-ONF) as well as some presumably reparable damage to a Libyan Airlines A330-200 (5A-LAS).

Both Afriqiyah Airways and Libyan Airlines each have two new A330s awaiting delivery at Airbus' Tolouse plant, but these are now expected to be delayed.
