The aircraft, an experimental Simmons built MXL II Sport, impacted airport terrain during the takeoff sequence at Shannon Airport (KEZF), Fredericksburg, Virginia. The airplane sustained substantial damage. A ballistic recovery system (BRS) parachute was deployed during the accident sequence. The sole pilot onboard received serious injuries which subsequently proved fatal.
