American Airlines co-pilot falls ill during flight to Tucson

TUCSON - American Airlines officials have confirmed a co-pilot on a plane from Dallas/Fort Worth was hospitalized after getting sick during the flight.

According to the American Airlines Communication Department, Flight 2710 landed in Tucson just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday with a medical emergency. More than a hundred passengers were on the flight.

Officials say the pilot had to land the plane. The co-pilot was able to leave the aircraft on his own, but he was taken to the hospital due to standard protocol.

American Airlines also stated that this is precisely the reason why there are two pilots in the cockpits during flights.
