Boeing P-8A Poseidons of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46 Grey Knights ('RC-xxx') are currently on temporary duty at NAS Sigonella (Sicily, Italy). The erruption of nearby Mount Etna yield just a magnificent photo with the mountain, its cloud of vulcanic dust and the duo P-8As (BuNo's 168431/RC-431 and 169006/RC-006) in the leading role.
Sigonella is well located near the centre of the Mediterranean Sea and therefor a perfect spot to support operations by the US 6th Fleet, other US military units, and US allies and coalition partners.
