CHC Helicopter reportedly plans to cut as many as 50 jobs in Aberdeen, Scotland following a downturn in oil prices. In reporting the cuts, the British Airline Pilots' Association called on the U.K. and Scottish governments to support the offshore oil and gas industry in the North Sea. Half of CHC's cut personnel are expected to be pilots. "The loss of experience is a major threat to the U.K. economy," said BALPA General Secretary Jim McAuslan. "It is more important than ever that the governments should commit to helping businesses in the North Sea through this downturn, so skills are not lost when the situation improves." CHC's announcement closely follows one by Bristow Helicopters, which cited the downturn for having to cut 130 jobs.
