Boeing and Kitty Hawk Corporation have announced a strategic partnership to collaborate on urban air mobility. Details about what the collaboration will involve were scant at this stage.
Kitty Hawk Corp., headquartered in Mountain View, California, is developing the Cora two-person air taxi, and Flyer, a vehicle for personalised flight. The aircraft will be offered via services rather than directly to customers.
The Cora has reportedly performed well in tests, reports say, and can fly at speeds of around 110 miles per hour at 500 to 3,000 feet. However, the company has no schedule for launch yet, saying: “We are not putting timeframes around when Cora will be available for public flight. We have a lot of work to do and we are working constructively with regulatory authorities. We are looking forward to being able to share our product with the New Zealand public when the time is right.”
“Working with a company like Kitty Hawk brings us closer to our goal of safely advancing the future of mobility,” said Steve Nordlund, vice president and general manager of Boeing’s innovation arm, Boeing NeXt.
“We have a shared vision of how people, goods and ideas will be transported in the future, as well as the safety and regulatory ecosystem that will underpin that transportation,” Nordlund said.
“Kitty Hawk was started to advance technology in flight and bring new innovations to life,” commented Sebastian Thrun, co-founder and CEO of Kitty Hawk. “I am excited about our companies working together to accelerate making safe, electric flight a reality.”
