A Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 605 jet, registration N605TR, was destroyed when it impacted heavily wooded terrain while on a visual approach to runway 11 near Truckee Airport (TRK/KTRK), Truckee, California. The two pilots and two passengers were fatally injured.
The pilot reported position LUMMO inbound on the RNAV runway 20 approach, and stated they needed to circle to runway 11 for length (runway 11 is 7001 feet long, runway 20 is 4654 feet). The crash occurred during the circling maneuver. A witness stated he saw the aircraft descending left-wing-down. Multiple witnesses saw the aircraft in a very sharp turn before impact.
