Qantas is sending its old Boeing 717’s fleet at the other side of the earth to be dismantled.

The Boeing 717s have to flight to Victorville, USA to be stored, probably destroyed.

The question is why Qantas is sending its aircraft that far despite having a storing field at Alice Springs.

We already noticed the aircraft VH-NXI took 13 flights and 9 days to reach its final destination.

But there is worst! An aircraft took 34 days, 16 flights to reach Victorville in California’s desert.

The plane (reg. VH-NXR) left Canberra on 12 July, here are the flight legs:

  • Canberra to Alice Springs, Australia (12 July 2023)
  • Alice Springs to Darwin, Australia
  • Darwin to Cebu, Philippines
  • Cebu to Chubu, Japan
  • Chubu to Chitose, Japan
  • Chitose to Taipei, Taiwan
  • Taipei City to Rayong, Thailand
  • Rayong to Naqpur, India
  • Naqpur to Muscat, Oman
  • Muscat to Hurghada, Egypt
  • Hurghada to Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Sofia to Stavanger, Norway
  • Stavanger to Reykjavík, Iceland
  • Reykjavík to Goose Bay, Canada
  • Goose Bay to International Falls, USA
  • International Falls to Victorville, USA (15 August 2023)

The aircraft has flown on regional and domestic routes for QantasLink for the past 15 years. All up, it has completed more than 29,000 flights and safely carried more than 1.6 million customers for both Qantas and Jetstar over two decades.
