Startup Norse Atlantic Airways will
open service between Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Los Angeles
International Airport (LAX) in 2024.
The CDG-LAX route will be flown with
a Boeing 787 from May 1, 2024, operating 6X-weekly. It will become the third
route Norse will fly from CDG.
The Norwegian long-haul LCC
currently operates between CDG and New York John F. Kennedy International
Airport. In December, the all-787 operator will open service between CDG and
Miami International Airport.
Norse CEO Bjorn Tore Larsen says in
a statement that the CDG-LAX route connects “two of the world’s most vibrant
and culturally rich cities.”
The airline will compete against
SkyTeam partners Air France and Delta Air Lines on the route.
Norse launched commercial service in
June 2022. When the carrier released quarterly earnings last week, Larsen said
June 2023 was the company’s “first month generating bottom-line
profits.” The carrier says its load factors have been steadily rising this
year: its overall load factor was 67% in April, 72% in May, 82% in June and 85%
in July.
As of July 1, Norse was operating 10
787s, and another five 787s in its fleet were subleased.
