Russia is
seeking to resume work on the joint project with the American company Boeing in
the Sverdlovsk region, as revealed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of
Russia, Denis Manturov, in an interview with the TASS agency.
The
project, which involves the Russian VSMPO-AVISMA company, the world's largest
titanium manufacturer, and Boeing, a leader in aircraft manufacturing, had been
suspended since 2022 after Boeing announced a halt to its purchases of Russian
titanium amid geopolitical developments.
Manturov
clarified that Russia has not imposed any restrictions on titanium exports to
the United States, emphasizing that the American market can still obtain
Russian titanium directly.
The Russian
official pointed out that the decision lies with the American companies
themselves, and that Moscow is not obstructing this path, opening the door for
the possibility of resuming cooperation between Boeing and Russia in the near
future.
The joint
project established years ago was a key pillar in the supply chain of titanium
for the global aviation industry, as Boeing relies on Russian materials to
manufacture important parts of its aircraft. Its suspension in 2022 raised many
questions about possible alternatives to meet the needs of the American
company, especially since Russia is one of the leading producers of titanium
globally.
Through
this approach, Russia is trying to reaffirm its position as a key player in the
strategic mineral markets, and its ability to supply major companies like
Boeing still exists despite Western sanctions.
Additionally,
the talk of resuming the joint project reflects Moscow's desire to maintain its
position within global supply chains and not to lose its status in the civil
aviation industry.
Experts
believe that the future of cooperation between Russia and Boeing will depend on
the United States' stance on continuing to rely on Russian titanium, especially
amid the current political tensions. However, Manturov's assurance of no
Russian restrictions leaves the door open for negotiations that could restore
the joint project to its normal course if the political and economic will
exists.
