The bid, the third by Ryanair, was launched last month and offers Aer Lingus stakeholders €1.30 per share. Ryanair currently holds a 29.8 per cent interest in the national carrier and is seeking to increase this to at least 50 per cent.
In a letter to Aer Lingus shareholders, Ryanair said that since
its first bid in 2006 “circumstances have changed materially” and highlighted
the number of European airlines that have merged in the last decade.
