"Detects targets a hundred times faster": France to equip TALIOS targeting module with artificial intelligenceTALIOS Pod
Compared to the previous equipment, it allows for the identification and tracking of moving targets of any size, both day and night, using high-resolution electro-optical and IR sensors. At the same time, the crew uses augmented reality to simplify the presentation of the tactical situation. Finally, this module is easier to maintain in working order than the previous Damocles module.
To date, the Ministry of Defense has purchased 82 TALIOS units. But the developer, Thales, intends to significantly increase the system's performance by introducing artificial intelligence.
The AI will sift through a given area in detail, automatically analyze images and present the crew with detected objects of interest or danger in order to keep a safe distance from them.
The module will be able to analyze images in real time and determine the position of detected targets a hundred times faster
- the developer assures, indicating that his goal is to put TALIOS with AI into service in 2026.
However, a number of French observers believe that these are overly optimistic timeframes.
