[Aviation Today March 25, 2014] Cirrus Aircraft has completed the first flight with the newly certified aircraft, C0, for its Vision SF50 single engine light jet, the Duluth, Minn.-based airframe manufacturer said.
The flight was completed as part of a series of evaluations for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification, with rigorous ground tests performed before taking off from Duluth International Airport. With the first flight, the engineers included systems checks of controllability, maneuverability, flight envelope testing, and speed performance at an intermediate altitude.
"The first flight of C0 is the latest milestone of many 'firsts' for General Aviation at Cirrus," said Dale Klapmeier, CEO and co-founder of Cirrus Aircraft.
Equipped with a Garmin G3000 cockpit, the $1.96 million jet is powered by a Williams International FJ33 turbofan engine and has a range of 1,200 nautical miles. Cirrus has not yet announced a scheduled entrance into service date.
