Century Fighter - F-106 Delta Dart - 318 Fighter Interceptor Squadron
Det gikk ikke så bra med disse fantastiske flyene. De ble konvertert til droner kalt QF106 og skutt ned av forskjellige typer missiler. En av disse ble til 1:72 modell og er beskrevet under:
The Convair F-106 Delta Dart began as an advanced version of the F-102 but because of so many modifications and design changes it became a new aircraft with its own designation. It was designed as a missile carrying all-weather interceptor against Soviet bombers and served in this role from the 1960s until the 1980s. The F-106A as well as the F-106B two-seat trainer served with 15 fighter interceptor squadrons starting in 1959. The aircraft was rarely referred to as the Delta Dart but was commonly called the “6”. In October 1960 Convair completed the 332nd F-106, 59-0141. In February 1961 the aircraft was assigned to the 456th FIS Castle AFB, California. On April 24, 1963 59-0141 transferred to the 498th FIS/325th FW at McChord AFB, Washington and three years later it transferred to the 318th FIS/325th FW. Except for a short assignment with the 48th FIS the aircraft was with the 318th FIS until November 1983 when it was sent to Davis-Monthan for storage and eventual conversion to a QF-106 drone. On November 6, 1992 the aircraft was destroyed by a Stinger Missile. Specifications for the Convair F-106A Delta Dart Crew – 1 x Pilot
