75th
Anniversary of D-Day
Commemoration
Activities
The National Museum of
the U.S. Air Force will commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day
with two separate days full of events, as well as a temporary augmented
reality (AR) exhibit.
D-Day: Freedom From Above
In honor of the 75th
Anniversary of D-Day, the Air Force Museum Foundation will open a new,
fully interactive augmented reality (AR) experience focusing on the
82nd and 101st Airborne divisions and their missions during D-Day.
This limited-time
exhibit utilizes the innovative "HistoPad," designed by the
French company Histovery. The HistoPad is an interactive tablet
which immerses the visitor in the history of Sainte-Mère-Église,
France, during the Occupation and the summer of 1944. Through
spectacular scientifically- and historically-validated 360°
recreations, museum visitors will travel in time to understand the key
moments of this decisive battle for the success of D-Day.
The D-Day: Freedom From
Above exhibit, located in Building 2, will take approximately
40 minutes to tour. Cost $5 per tablet.
Monday, May 13, 2019
Commemoration activities
will include a paratrooper jump, D-Day films and the opening of the
temporary AR exhibit which will remain open through the end of the
year.
Thursday, June 6, 2019
Marking the 75th
Anniversary of D-Day, commemoration activities will include a
flyover, wreath laying, living history re-enactors, WWII-era vehicles,
collection displays and D-Day films.
