African carriers contribute 20% to global air accidents in
2013
African airspace once again recorded the highest rate of
fatal commercial aviation accidents in 2013 with 20 per cent of global
fatalities.
However, Africa still contributed merely three per cent to
global aviation traffic in the previous year just like in 2012.
There
were 29 commercial air accidents worldwide in 2013 and 265 fatalities involving
passenger and cargo planes designed to carry the equivalent of at least 14
passengers.
These statistics were released yesterday by the Aviation
Safety Network, ASN, in the United States.
