Boeing gets commitments for up to 108 aircraft worth over $8 billion

Boeing has received commitments from SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines for up to 108 aircraft with a total list price of over $8 billion.
SilkAir, currently operating an entirely Airbus fleet, has signed a Letter of Intent for 23 737-800s and 31 737 MAX 8s valued at $4.9 billion at current list prices. There are also options on another 14 aircraft, although not specifying which version, it will give the airline the flexibility to switch to other variants within the B737 family. Deliveries are due to commence in 2014 through to 2021.
“We continue to see very strong growth within the region and these new aircraft will position SilkAir well. They will enable us to spread our wings to even more destinations and increase capacity on existing routes, contributing to the overall SIA Group network,” said Chief Executive Marcus Tan.
Separately, Xiamen Airlines has agreed to purchase 40 737-800NGs as it expands its international network to meet growing passenger demand in the Asia-Pacific and China region. The deal, worth $3.5 billion at list prices, is subject to final approval by the Chinese government.
