The Norway Ministry of Justice and Public Safety has decided to incorporate the Star Safire 380HDc sensor from FLIR Systems into its fleet of AgustaWestland AW101s. The helicopters will be part of the country’s All Weather Search and Rescue Helicopter (NAWSARH) program.
The 50-lb Star Safire 380-HDc is an HD imaging system designed for helicopter SAR missions, providing multispectral imaging for aircrews. The system includes infrared, day-camera and short wave infrared sensors, GeoLock scene coordinate location, moving target indication and augmented image enhancement.
Deliveries of the FLIR sensors are scheduled to begin before the end of 2014, with an expected in-service date of 2017.
AgustaWestland received the NAWSARH contract in December 2013, and is expected to begin deliveries of the 16 AW101s to the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 2017. AgustaWestland will also provide the preliminary support and training services, along with performance-based logistics support up to 90,000 flying hours in the first 15 years of service.
