Manned and Unmanned Systems: Polish Students and Lockheed Martin Collaborate

Juliet Van Wagenen
[Avionics Today 08-29-14] In a partnership with Lockheed Martin, a team of research students and staff from the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland successfully demonstrated the first phase of flight testing and integration of unmanned aircraft platforms with an autonomous mission control system.

The purpose of the primarily student-staffed project is to optimize performance of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) when flying in tandem with manned aircraft, in order to make the best use of available assets for any given mission.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to collaborate with a global leader in aerospace engineering to develop complex control software,” said Professor Janusz Narkiewicz, the leader and scientific manager of the project from Warsaw University of Technology. “The project also integrates this control software onto multiple unmanned aircraft as part of a full flight test program.”
