The plane crashed under unknown circumstances around 1 a.m. in the Hnathalo tribe in Lifou, near a home and not far from Wanaham airfield.
Four victims have been identified, they are three air traffic controllers from Wanaham aerodrome, including the head of the air navigation service at Lifou. The other victim is said to be a friend of one of them.
As a result of this crash, the two rotations planned by Air Calédonie between Lifou and Noumea, this Saturday morning, had to be canceled. A crisis meeting is scheduled in the morning to find out how and if air traffic can be provided in the afternoon.
