German defence company, Hensoldt has successfully defeated several air defence radars with its Kalaetron Attack jamming system.

The demonstrator system was tested onboard a PC-12 turboprop aircraft in extended flight tests at Augsburg Airport in Germany on February 8.

Hensoldt spectrum dominance and airborne solutions division head Christoph Ruffner said the jamming system proved it can detect the latest air defence radars in flight and interfere with them through precisely directed jamming signals.

“Neutralising enemy air defence radars is an essential prerequisite for the deployment of own air forces on the modern battlefield,” he said.

“Our flight tests proved that Kalaetron Attack can combat ground-based threats to our air force and protect aircrews.”

The jamming system uses a fully digitalised, broadband sensor and an electronically controllable jammer. It has also successfully cleared laboratory and ground tests as well as shown the ability to engage multiple targets with various jamming techniques.

It is being marketed as a self-protection and signal reconnaissance system for the German Armed Forces, Eurofighter onboard escort jammer and land or ship-based opportunities.
