Ukjent historie fra 2. verdenskrig

A real Texas war hero: Lieutenant Owen J. Baggett was a B-24 pilot doing a bombing run on March 31, 1943, when his squadron was attacked by Japanese zeros. When his plane was hit numerous times and set afire, he and his crew were forced to bail out. The Japanese pilots then began attacking the airmen as they parachuted.

Baggett was wounded and played dead, hoping the Japanese would ignore him. Nevertheless, a couple passed slowly to make sure. That's when the Texan instincts kicked in, and Baggett pulled out his .45 and started shooting. One pilot was confirmed dead, his plane stalled and plunged toward the ground. The other pilot was wounded and fled the area.

So Owen Baggett goes down in history being the only known soldier to have shot down an airplane using a pistol.

One of the other parachuters even caught it on camera....
