Airbus confirmed it is offering a version of the A350-1000 in the Qantas ultra-long-haul competition around “Project Sunrise” that would enable the airline to open nonstop flights from Australia’s East Coast to London and New York, among other locations.

Qantas plans to make a decision about an aircraft order for the project by the end of 2019, subject to reaching an agreement with its pilots. Flights to London would be around 9,700 nm, depending on prevailing winds and exact routing.

Qantas plans to start non-stop service from Australia’s east coast cities to destinations such as London and New York by 2022.  The Australian carrier has tasked Airbus and Boeing to develop a aircraft capable of these ultra long-haul flights.
